What is the “CrossFit Open”?
This is where any athlete, anywhere can compete in their local affiliate
over a period of several weeks. These
workouts will be the bar that is set to narrow the field of CrossFit
competitors for competition at the Regional level. Think of it like establishing a ranking like
the NCAA or Professional Sports do that narrow the field of who will be
competing in the “Playoffs”. The Open
will lead into 17 Regionals, and the top 3 athletes from each region to the
Games.
The beauty of CrossFit is that any athlete can throw their
hat in the ring. Even if you just do CrossFit to keep healthy, feel better,
etc. you can still do the “Open Workouts”.
This way everyone can participate in the competitive community. In addition, it’s a great way to set benchmarks
for yourself to measure how you improve year over year. You may be surprised to see how you stack up
against other athletes in your region and the world.
How it works? The
CrossFit HQ will post one workout per week for five weeks from March 6th through April 2nd, 2013.
Athletes have from the workout's release each Wednesday until the following
Sunday at 5 p.m. to submit their results. To participate, you will need to register: https://games.crossfit.com/cf/login?returnTo=%2Fcompetition&flow=games
You can submit your workouts one of 2 ways:
- Record your workout and submit results yourself. To learn more about it, please access this link: http://games.crossfit.com/article/welcome-2013-season
- Come to one of the times listed below and have your workouts “judged” by one of your affiliate trainers that have taken the “Judging Course” for the games.

I encourage everyone to throw his or her hat in the ring no
matter where you think athletic ability resides. I’ve seen that it can be a very motivating
opportunity because of the occasion to do these workouts with your friends,
maybe even friends that you don’t get to see through the normal week. And since it is a competitive environment, it
tends to bring out the best of your inner athlete.
